Murphy or Hepburn?

If Murphy is Mimi's maiden name, then I wonder how it is that certain people from her own family, (brother Robert/Bobbi and niece Ruby) are named Hepburn? Aside from this being a likely case of writer's negligence, one could speculate that Mimi's siblings had changed their family name to Hepburn out of shame of being related to her. --Fenrir51 (talk) 00:50, November 2, 2012 (UTC)

Could be, though she's been Maguire since a young age so you'd think there would be no need. I think it is just another case of writer's idiocy. When Bobbi turned up with the last name Hepburn it was easily explained, she changed her last name along with her first (various possible reasons why, including seperating herself from her family) it made sense. But when Ruby also had the last name, Ruby who is the child of Mimi and Bobbi's brother it doesn't make sense. The only think I can think of (again speculating to make the writer's work make sense, my part time job lol) is that Mimi has a different father to her siblings. I know that's never been mentioned but to some families "half bother/sister" isn't used. My own sisters have a different father but we've been raised together since I was born and I've never considered them half siblings, though they technically are, -- Lyco499 (talk) 17:56, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
Ok, wild speculation time, but here goes. It could be that Bobbi and Kenny (as in Ruby's father) were actually Murphy by birth, but something happened with their father that led to them feeling the need to separate themselves from him, and start fresh as if their father never existed (rubbing him out, so to speak), so they both made the decision to change their name to Hepburn later, and start treating it as if actually WERE their birth names.... and consequently Ruby inherited the 'changed' name of Hepburn rather than the original Murphy. But in Mimi's case, it would be redundant, as she would marry Paddy and become a Maguire, so the name would change anyway. I only say this, because my family in real life has actually done something similar, so it does happen. Jiemusu89 (talk) 12:46, January 9, 2013 (UTC)
I recall Mimi saying, perhaps in the Series 8 episode when Bobbi Hepburn appeared, that her father died after a long illness when she was young, and spent her teens looking after her younger brother. And earlier in the same series, Mimi mentioned her mother dying many years back as well, which is odd considering that one "Nanna Murthy" made an appearance at Mimi's birthday party in Episode 503. In any case, its strange that both of Mimi's brothers would take the same separate surname. --Fenrir51 (talk) 17:08, January 9, 2013 (UTC)
I can't recall who was older out of Kenny or Bobbi. But if Kenny was older than Bobbi, maybe Bobbi was too young when their father died, to really see the father as a 'father figure'. And thus Kenny, as Bobbi's brother, became like a surrogate father figure to a young Bobbi. Thus, the name change followed. Or maybe Bobbi and Kenny were just really close. Maybe Mimi's' differences with Bobbi, spurred Bobbi to seek sibling comfort in Kenny more. Could be anything really. Jiemusu89 (talk) 12:40, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
In the latest episode of Shameless, Mimi stated that Kenny was her older brother, and inferred that Kenny started the business that she and her then-boyfriend Paddy took over. She described Kenny as "weak" and that he became a drug-addict himself. And it turned out that Ruby's reason for moving in with her auntie Mimi all along was to "reclaim her inheritance". Bobbi might have taken Kenny's lead in the name change to disassociate himself from known criminals like Mimi and Paddy, although the feeling was certainly more than mutual, because it as revealed in flashbacks that Mimi pretended she wasn't in whenever Bobbi arrived to visit. So your assessment may cut to the truth. --Fenrir51 (talk) 13:51, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Unnamed Granchild?

Just noticed this in her character box. Wondering whose child it could be. Katie and Connor are both listed, the child Micky took from the drug addict is the only one I can think of but she had a name (though I can't think of it I could easily find it on Micky's page). Is it just meant to be this child or is there one I can't remember? -- Lyco499 (talk) 21:36, January 13, 2013 (UTC)

I don't know of any third Maguire grandchild. Jamie and Mandy are the only ones among her own children to have had kids. --Fenrir51 (talk) 22:55, January 13, 2013 (UTC)
I guess it was meant to be the child Micky basically kidnapped then lol. Will fix it. -- Lyco499 (talk) 01:44, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Was Mandy not pregnant, when her ghost appeared to Mimi in Series 8? I always figured it was that. Mandy's page features an 'unnamed child' under children. Jiemusu89 (talk) 04:49, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Never really noticed, though I find it really odd to count that. I mean Mandy's apparition was possibly a hallucination to begin but even if it was meant to be a real ghost, she was pregnant with what exactly, a ghost baby? As much as I loved having Samantha Siddal pop back, Shameless only makes things confusing with it's little trips into the supernatural. Stella being telepathic for an episode caused a laughable amount of problems when editors decided that it must literaly mean that Stella is telepathic, even now. -- Lyco499 (talk) 07:30, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
