"Summer Loving" is the second episode in the second season of Shameless. It originally aired on January 15, 2012.
Synopsis[]
As Sheila is conquering her agoraphobia, Frank grows close to Dottie, a sick woman who might be his next financial windfall; Jasmine tries setting up Fiona with a sugar daddy.
Plot[]
Sheila continues to conquer more of her agoraphobia, to Frank’s dismay; Frank believes that Sheila will kick him out once she is able to walk to the Alibi Room. While drinking, Frank talks to Antoine, a delivery driver who reveals that his last delivery is for a former bar patron named Dottie Coronis; the other Alibi regulars nickname her “Butterface”. When Antoine reveals that Dottie has chronic indigestion, Frank sneaks into Antoine’s truck and steals Dottie’s delivery; he then goes to Dottie’s house to personally deliver it himself. Dottie is initially hostile towards Frank, but eventually lets him inside to watch television with her.
Ian and Mandy visit Mickey, who is being released from prison. Debbie complains to Fiona that she needs more privacy, and that she wants her own room without Liam. Ian and Mickey go to a football field and have sex. Ian tells Mickey that he can talk to Linda about getting Mickey a job at the Kash and Grab, which Mickey seems indifferent to. Lip visits Karen’s house and they have sex after Jody leaves; Karen reveals that she and Jody are currently pursuing a sex-free relationship. While working at the club, Jasmine implores Fiona to meet David’s wealthy friend, Richard, but Fiona states that she’s not into married guys.
At Dottie’s house, Dottie reveals to Frank that her pager will beep if there is a heart transplant available. When Frank tries to help out around the house, Dottie questions his intentions; Frank states that he’s merely offering his services. That night, Fiona returns home after work and discovers Lip sleeping in her bedroom, as Debbie has moved Liam into the boys’ shared bedroom. Fiona resorts to Frank’s room to sleep, but discovers that Frank has rented out his room to a pregnant woman.
The next morning, Fiona deduces that Liam will sleep in the boys’ bedroom, to Carl’s dismay. She also berates Frank for renting out the room without their knowledge. Carl asks Frank if he can stay with him at Sheila’s house, but Frank dismisses him. Frank visits Dottie again and asks her if she needs any help around the house; Dottie lets him buy groceries for her. Back at the Gallagher house, Carl moves his mattress downstairs and discovers Fiona’s old diary. Fiona later overhears Carl reading her diary to Debbie’s babysitting kids; Fiona chastises Carl over the importance of privacy, but Carl retorts that he needs privacy too. Realizing that Carl wants his own room, Fiona lets Carl make his own bedroom in the old family van.
Veronica takes some of the elderly folks at the retirement home, including Aunt Ginger and her boyfriend Harry, on a bus excursion. One of the elders, Miss Claire, implores Veronica to let them take a stroll at the local park. Veronica relents, and the elders have a good time; Kevin and Lip sell ice cream to the elders from their ice cream truck. In the process, Kevin gives Lip advice on his relationship with Karen. Veronica takes the elderly folks back to the retirement home; Harry collapses in his room and passes away. Shortly after, Debbie arrives at the retirement home to visit Aunt Ginger; she learns of Harry’s passing.
That night, Frank tries to have sex with Dottie. She rebuffs him, stating that she can’t have sex because of her failing heart, as her heart could explode if her blood pressure goes above 120/80. While Fiona is working at the club, Jasmine introduces Fiona to Richard, but the two don’t hit it off, as Fiona dislikes the fact that Richard is married. The episode concludes with Lip going to Karen’s house; he sees Karen passionately kissing Jody before he leaves the house. Realizing that Karen and Jody are starting to get serious, Lip angrily stalks off.
