"Hiraeth" is the first episode and season premiere in the seventh season of the US version of Shameless. It originally aired on October 2, 2016.
Synopsis[]
Frank wakes from a month long coma after being thrown in the lake and finds out nobody came looking for him. Carl gets circumcised because his girlfriend wont give him oral sex. Ian's fireman boyfriend is planning a get together with a female friend and Ian becomes concerned. Lip starts a new job after getting out of rehab.
Plot[]
Frank wakes up in the hospital.
Frank is underwater where he has flashes of his family and others before he wakes up immediately after getting a bath. He was told that he was in a coma for nearly a month after being found in Lake Michigan. He is revealed to have no memory of how he ended up in the river after being told nobody looked for him. He is given a hefty bill and tries to leave the hospital, with no luck.
Fiona continues her job at Patsy's Pies as the manager, however she starts to find difficulty in her job after Sean's abrupt departure. Carl continues his relationship with Dominique Winslow and is happy at how their sex life is progressing.
Meanwhile Kev, V, and Svetlana continue their polygamous relationship as all three help each other out with own necessities to even running the Alibi together.
Frank recalls the event after the wedding.
Very soon, Frank arrives at the bar after receiving a wheelchair and asks for a drink while Kev, Veronica, and Svetlana are greatly shocked to see that he has survived the fall. After Svetlana nervously serves him, Frank explains his condition to a surprised Veronica of only being in a coma when found and pulled out the river. He tells Kermit and Tommy that the wheelchair is temporary until he recovers, as he brings up on how he managed to survive. Kev and the others are worried, as Kev nervously states they had thought Frank was dead but he states it was not the case from previous near-death experiences. Frank notes on their lack of effort to find him after the wedding, as Kev notes Frank doesn't remember what happened. Perplexed, Frank questions this remark while looking upon the worried expressions of Kev, Veronica, and Svetlana before he has flashes of the events of the Season 6 finale. He soon remembers the full event after the wedding; where they along with his children and Caleb kidnapped him, stuffed him in a trunk, and threw him off a bridge. With this, Frank angrily curses them for putting him through his pain before moving to leave with his drink that Svetlana tries to help him claim but he seizes it from the stand and storming out. The three are left scared at what Frank will do now.
Lip is released from A.A treatment. Debbie continues to have difficulty as a single mother, she then resorts to stealing other people's belongings also hires a night nanny to watch Frannie.
At the Gallagher House, Frank asks for help and soon Liam comes to let him in. Frank thanks his son and goes to eat from the fridge before he passes out.
Elsewhere, Ian starts to have his doubts over his relationship with Caleb and is told he might be cheating, which leaves him worried.
At the Alibi, Kev is feeling guilt about throwing Frank away after seeing his condition while Veronica tries to relieve him since Frank had it coming, though is worried about what he might do.
The Gallagher boys return home, where they find their father passed out on the floor covered in food and aren't surprised to see he is alive and leave him where he is.
Carl finds out all his brothers are circumcised and confronts the waking Frank on this. Frank gives an explanation and Carl learns he is circumcised too and Frank confirmed it. He asks if anyone tried to look for him while he was gone. Carl bluntly tells him that nobody tried to find him, since they kinda hoped he'd be dead depressing him. Very soon, Debbie arrives and is displeased to see the dragging Frank alive and they all treat their father with disdain. Afterwards, Ian tells Fiona that Frank is back and she forces him out for his wrongdoing at her wedding.
At the end, Ian with the help from Lip follow and discover Caleb making out with a woman outside the local train station.
