Bizim Hikaye

Bizim Hikaye, meaning Our Story in Turkish, is the Turkish adaptation of the Shameless series. In the beginning, it was inspired by the English original, but as the seasons progressed, there were inspirations from the American version as well. The show was aired on Fox Turkey and it had 70 episodes in total. It ended on 23 May, 2019.

The leading character Filiz Elibol (the counterpart of Fiona Gallagher) has taken the role of the "mother" of her 5 siblings over the years: Rahmet, Hikmet, Kiraz, Fikret and Ismet because of the absence of the mother Elibol. The family has a father, Fikri Elibol but he is an alcoholic and he never takes his responsibilities. The family's lives are changed the day Filiz met Baris Aktan, played by the Turkish actor Burak Deniz, as a counterpart for Jimmy Lishman. Though the Elibols are poor, Baris comes from a wealthy family but... he has secrets.

Filiz (played by the successful actress Hazal Kaya) is a young and beautiful woman. She is the eldest. She falls in love with Baris but his secrets make their relationship hard. The couple gets married in the end and they have a daughter by the end of the show.

Baris is a leading character whose real name is Savas. He has a secret son from a prosecutor who is also named Savas (Savas and Baris mean War and Peace successively in Turkish). Baris has to marry the prosecutor even though he is in love with Filiz. Baris's first marriage, therefore, is not because of love, it's because of the son. The newly-weds have a lot of problems and the little Savas has become a victim. The couple has to divorce and the prosecutor, Nihal causes a lot of troubles, Baris doesn't want to let the little Savas stay with the mother. But Nihal is regretful in the end, she promises she'll be a good mother and the little Savas stays with her.

Fikri (played by Reha Ozcan) is the counterpart for Frank Gallagher.

Tulay (played by the internationally-acclaimed Nesrin Cavadzade) is Filiz's neighbor and best friend. She's with Tufan. She doesn't know about his previous marriage to Ferda, so the couple argues. In the second season, Tulay is longing for a child and she meets Zeynep, a teenage mother, so she wants to protect the pregnant mother. Together, they go abroad and Tufan is left alone. He still loves Tulay, until he meets Ferda again. Ferda is a bit angry at first because she knows Tufan loved Tulay more than her, but because she's still in love with him, she tries every way to make Tufan forget about Tulay.

Rahmet Elibol (played by the young actor Yagiz Can Konyali) is Filiz's eldest brother. In the first season he goes to high school. He is very successful. He dates Mujde, representing Karen Jackson, a neighbor's daughter at the same time. By the end of the first season, the couple breaks up and as the second season starts, Rahmet is seen at university. The audience, alongside the Elibol family, thinks he attends university but actually, he just cleans the university. He is realized by one of the students, Derin Celik, who doesn't care about his job, and a new romance blossoms. At the same time, he is targeted by the university's bad girl, Deniz Celik, who happens to be Derin's elder stepsister. Deniz falls in love with Rahmet in time, and she suffers because she loves her stepsister a lot. One day, Rahmet and Deniz share a forbidden kiss and then, they make love. Rahmet doesn't want to lie to Derin and he tells her that he is in love with Deniz actually. Deniz pretends that he is just a one night stand for her because she doesn't want Derin to be heartbroken. Derin is relieved. Rahmet is realized by a maths professor and he starts working for him, which means he has become Deniz's lecturer. The couple has to be face to face every day and they can't escape from their real feelings. One day, Deniz pretends to be ill because of Rahmet's love. This changes Derin's attitude, and she calls for Rahmet's help. Rahmet arrives at Deniz's house, he finds her sleeping, he holds her hand and declares his deep feelings. Deniz, giggling, wakes up and Rahmet realizes he has been made fun of. But Deniz doesn't let him go, by saying "This was the only way to stop Derin." The couple now lives together but Deniz keeps saying someday she will go away. She never tells Rahmet her secret. The couple argues over small things, but their love never fades away because Rahmet and Deniz have become the second most popular couple of Bizim Hikaye, after Filiz and Baris. In their adventures, Deniz risks her life a lot for Rahmet, and Rahmet tells her that he will never let her go. In the last episodes of the show, a rival appears for Rahmet: Pelin. This girl is ambitious and she doesn't want Rahmet to date Deniz at university because this is what the maths professor wants. He knows that Rahmet is deeply in love with Deniz but he has missed a lot of chances in his career. But Rahmet clearly doesn't want a life without Deniz, so he tricks Pelin. According to their agreement, they pretend to like each other in order to make Deniz jealous. Ultimately, Deniz will say yes to Rahmet's marriage proposal. This game goes badly and Deniz dumps Rahmet. She finds another man, Murat. Rahmet confesses to his lies but Deniz doesn't forgive him. She attends Cicek and Cemil's wedding with Murat and Rahmet, jealously, argues with her. This moment is appreciated by the whole Elibol family and their friends, and they advise the couple that they get married. Cicek and Cemil's wedding is shared by Rahmet and Deniz. They get married and they live happily ever after.

Hikmet Elibol (played by Nejat Uygur, Jr) attends the same high school as Rahmet in the first season. He represents Ian Gallagher, only to be heterosexual. He is in love with an older, married woman. He has a shy personality and he has to work at a part-time job. He shares the fate of his mother: being mentally unwell but this is going to be explored in the second season. Esra, the woman he loves, has an unhappy marriage and he wants to help her. In time, Esra learns about his romantic feelings and the show leaves it unclear if those feelings are mutual. In the end, Esra leaves the show. Hikmet, in the second season, has found another woman to help: Zeynep. This time, this woman is closer to his age but she's pregnant. Hikmet is in love with her, and he tells the Elibol family that the baby is his. The Elibol family has to take care of Zeynep. But Zeynep is a cynical woman, she uses Hikmet's feelings to her advantage. Hikmet's adventure-seeking nature has gone out of the hand and he kidnaps a baby. He is put in an asylum. Zeynep is regretful because she feels Hikmet has become mentally unwell partly because of her. She decides to stay with Tulay, then she goes abroad with her. Meanwhile, Hikmet gets better at asylum, but his condition is never named, being Ian's disorder is "bipolar". In the final episode, he is out of asylum, fully well, and he attends Cicek and Cemil's wedding. During the planning of Rahmet and Deniz's surprise wedding, he likes Pelin, and Pelin likes him as well.

(Note: Hikmet isn't the biological son of Fikri but he never researches his real father, because he loves his family, the Elibols.)

Kiraz represents Debbie Gallagher, she generally hangs out with her younger brother Fikret, and she's a bit spoiled at times. But she has a good nature and by the end of the show, she has learned to respect her eldest sister, Filiz.

Fikret represents Carl Gallagher, he is a troublesome boy but he is loved by his family. He generally goes by the nickname "Fiko".

Ismet is the youngest Elibol, known by the nickname "Minibol", representing Liam Gallagher, and he befriends the little Savas in the second season. He is sorry when he has to stay with Nihal.

Cicek is the new best friend of Filiz, after the departure of Tulay, and she has come out of prison. She was married once and now she falls in love with Cemil, the character that represents Tony Markovich. Tony has a troublesome mother that doesn't want a bride that was married before, so she tests Cicek. Cicek passes the test well, and she is accepted. She gets married to Cemil in the final episode.
