Alan Pritchard was the father of Joe Pritchard, seen only in Episode 15 of Series 7. His death at age 47 is revealed to Joe during his birthday party, which goes on to fuel Joe's enthusiasm to start a new life with Karen.
During the episode of his appearance, when Joe revealed that he and Karen Maguire had been having sex regularly for almost a year, Jamie Maguire dug up his body and presented it to Joe as an act of revenge following Karen's refusal to go back with him.
